Dirty lil’ birds

Dr. George Murray Levick holds the distinction of being the only person in history to observe an entire breeding cycle in the Antarctic – and apparently, he saw more than he wanted.

Newly uncovered documents that are part of an exhibit at the Natural History Museum have revealed Levick’s thoughts on the Adelie penguin as depraved hooligans who conceded to their every sexual whim.

He was so horrified by what he saw that his findings remained hidden for nearly 100 years because he refused to include them in his published paper Natural History of the Adelie Penguin.

He wrote his excluded observations in Greek to ensure that very few people had access to the information and circulated a separate paper, Sexual Habits of the Adelie Penguin, to a small circle of friends.

Was the dark of the moon

It was on this date* that three semi-trucks, about a mile out of Los Angeles, form a convoy.

(*Unless you’re going by the movie, which claims that things started happening on the next day and in Arizona.  But the opening 70’s-style funk, with a hint of twang, more than makes up for that error.)

World Penguin Day

Today is the day when most penguins start their migration north, and thus is considered as “World Penguin Day.”

Sorry I’ve been so busy or I would’ve baked a cake. Instead you’ll have to settle for these various links about my favorite flightless birds:

Celebrate Ben Masel Day

Rokker over at Maximum Ink puts it way better than I can, and he also has a transcript of the proclamation from the City of Madison declaring April 20th “Ben Masel Day”

For now, all I can really say about Ben is “I really miss that guy.

Tea Party and Organized Labor, in Solidarity together

Well, ok…maybe they ain’t exactly hand-in-hand, but Huffington Post has an article about how the Tea Party and Labor forms of protesting/picketing illegal. I had this to say in the comments:

Warms my heart to see these two groups agreeing! Hopefully both organizations will start to discover that they have even more things in common than just this.

Actual numbers – not a polling sample

Althouse has a post about an attack ad against Tom Barrett, who is running for Governor in the upcoming recall election. One of the commentators in the thread said “Walker will win the recall election“, and I responded with this:

I’ve been worried that might happen.

But then I noticed that slightly over 785,000 voters turned out for the Republican Presidential Primary yesterday, while the number of verified signatures on the recall petitions against Walker was around 900,000

*shrug*

Of course I know there probably are some Walker supporters who didn’t vote yesterday; but there are also some people who voted in the Republican primary that ain’t gonna for vote for Walker. And while not everyone who signed that recall petition is automatically gonna vote against our current Governor, over fifteen thousand almost 150,000 votes is a pretty large spread for him to overcome, no?

Yeah, I’m a little lot less worried now.

UPDATED: For those who like exact numbers and sources:

Votes cast in GOP Primary – 785,163.

Number of signatures verified by the Government Accountability Board – over 931,000.

So I not only left off 30,000 signatures (pulled the original figure from memory), I also did some bad math…like 100,000 worth of bad math.

Double Standard?

Caffeinated Politics has a post about how the Republicans in Wisconsin plan on running “fake” candadiates in the upcoming Democratic Primaries for the recall elections, and I had this to say about it:

Just to clear up what the WI-GOP seems to be saying:

Recall elections = anti-democracy and a waste of money
Running fake candidates in a primary = good idea and good use of taxpayer dollars

I can’t help put wonder…will the signatures on the nomination papers for these fake candidates be available to the public? After all, don’t we deserve to know which of our neighbors are helping commit this kind of fraud and deceit?

For instance, in case, you and your partner are living like good roommates, it can be used up to once a day as needed. https://pdxcommercial.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Brochure-1.pdf viagra without prescription The relaxed muscles perform effectively at time of cheapest viagra prices work. Seriously – they are whining about how much these elections are gonna cost the taxpayers, and yet they choose to double that expense just so their guys have more time to raise more money for the general election. And if that ain’t bad enough, they’ll defend their hypocrisy with a straight face.

Shame on them….and shame on anyone who votes for those scoundrels.
